Tuberculous meningitis: a diagnostic challenge

Abstract

Tuberculous meningitis is the most devastating form of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, relatively frequent in pediatric patients. We present a clinical case of an infant of 11-months not vaccinated, who lives in an endemic area of tuberculosis, with fever, vomiting and neurological impairment for an unknown period. After several diagnostics testing, treatments and even a hospital transfer she was diagnosed of tuberculous meningitis, starting specific treatment but having important neurological disabilities. This case show us the importance of early diagnosis and treatment on this disease.
