Abstract

Introduction. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been described since 1956, and its use has grown significantly in recent years, particularly playing a relevant role in healthcare delivery. Materials and Methods. A structured literature review was conducted using various recognized databases to develop an updated contextual framework. Results. AI plays a significant role across multiple areas of healthcare, including clinical and paraclinical diagnostic tools, prognosis, and treatment. The use of AI models must be responsible, and the practice of healthcare professionals should be complemented—not replaced—by sound clinical judgment. Conclusions. AI is here to stay, and its increasingly widespread use should be incorporated into the training of healthcare professionals, with a focus on ensuring safe and humanized patient care.
